GOFFSTOWN - Louis A. Turner, 89, of Goffstown, passed away November 3, 2017, at the Hillsborough County Nursing Home. He was predeceased by his wife Raelene (Van de Bogart) Turner. He was born August 27, 1928 in Weare, NH, the son of Louis O. and Edith (Allen) Turner.
Lou was an automobile mechanic for more than 40 years at Merrimack Street Garage in Manchester, NH. He was also instrumental in the Saidel family’s Jomar vintage sports car racing team, designing and making improvements to cars they would race in places like Lime Rock, CT, Watkins Glen, NY, and the Poconos.
Louie loved to fish and to make whirligig wind mobiles. He was often involved in inventive household projects. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix or create a solution for. He also found time to coach baseball and basketball.
He is survived by two sisters: June Kalipolites and Sylvia Gingras, four sons: David L. Turner of Goffstown, Warren Turner of Chelmsford, MA, Lanny Turner of Fairfax, VA, and Eric Turner of Nashua, NH, as well as 6 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, and 4 great-grandchildren.
A memorial reception will be held Saturday afternoon, December 23rd, from 1 to 3pm at French and Rising Funeral Home, 17 South Mast St. Goffstown. A graveside funeral service will be held in the spring at New Cemetery in Henniker. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lou’s name to the charity of one’s choice.
