Bessie (Betsy) Marie Elliott passed away on Friday February 9 at the Ridgewood Center in Bedford, NH after a lengthy illness.

She was born in New Paltz, NY on July 5, 1928, the daughter of the late Frank R. and Bessie (Fredericks) Harp.

Betsy graduated from New Paltz High School and attended New Paltz Normal School where she studied to be a school teacher. She also attended Fay Business School in Boston Ma. It was in Boston that she met her future husband, Thomas J. Elliott of Brookline, Ma. They married in 1952 and settled in Needham MA where they had two sons, Steven T. and the late William F. Elliott. After moving to Maryland in 1961, the family relocated to Goffstown, NH in 1966. For the past seven years, Betsy was a resident of The Villager in Goffstown, where she received much love and care.

Betsy worked at the Goffstown Public library for 26 years as the children’s librarian, during which time she earned an associate’s degree in library science from NHTI. She was very active in the Goffstown Congregational Church, serving in many capacities. After retiring from the library in 1994, Betsy volunteered at the Prime Time Senior Center and the Currier Museum both in Manchester, NH. She was a lover of the arts, enjoying painting and listening to music.

She is survived by her son Steven, daughter-in-law Stacie, and granddaughters Page and Christy of Bedford, NH.

Visiting hours are Monday, February 19, 2018 from 5 to 7 PM at the French and Rising Funeral Home, 17 S. Mast St, Goffstown, NH. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 10AM at the Goffstown Congregational Church, 8 Main St., Goffstown, NH. A spring burial will take place at the Westlawn Cemetery in Goffstown.
