Loren (Larry) Chester Powers Jr., 80, passed away peacefully at his home on August 4th, 2019 following a brief illness. Born on October 31, 1938 he was the son of the late Loren Sr. and Julia (Ziarko) Powers.
During his life Loren enjoyed photography, old country music, traveling and exploring new places, and hiking into areas that most people didn’t want to go. The birds that lived in his neighborhood lived in the one-of-a-kind birdhouses designed and constructed by Loren. He was proud of his house which he designed and the property around it surrounded by the many stone walls he spent hours building. Loren was an ice cream fanatic and knew which ice cream stand within a 50 mile radius served the biggest scoop for the lowest price.
Larry’s biggest joy, however, was riding his motorcycles on the back roads of NH and Vermont. He could never pass by a dirt road without having the need to find out where it went. He would take many pictures as he was riding along and then turn them into videos. He spent many hours selecting music to enhance the videos and putting them on “YouTube.” For 40 years he was a member of the NH Retread motorcycle club as well as a member of the ROMEOs (Retired Old Motorcyclists Eating Out) from it’s inception.
He is survived by his wife Dianna (Martin Wheeler) Powers of Bow, NH; children Catherine Willey (Tim) of Weare, NH, Michael Powers (Sheri) of Concord, NH, Darrell Wheeler (Janet Rosado) of Croydon, NSW, Australia, and Erik Wheeler (Chris Anne) of Hopkinton, NH; grandchildren Kristen, Tyler and Jonathan Willey; James Powers; Amber Rosado and Dylan Wheeler; and Alexandra and Paige Wheeler; great grandson Kyler Powers and two loving nieces.
Calling Hours will be held on Friday August 9th from 4pm-7pm at the French and Rising Funeral Home 17 South Mast Street Goffstown, NH 03045. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday August 10th at 10am at the South Congregational Church 27 Pleasant St, Concord, NH 03301. A private graveside burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
Donations in Larry’s name can be made to the Pope Memorial SPCA, Silk Farm Rd, Concord, NH 03301, South Congregational Church or Hospice, Concord Regional VNA, 30 Pillsbury St., Concord, NH 03301.
